Casablanca Moves to Regulate Parking Ahead of Major Sporting Events

Casablanca is looking for ways and means to regulate the car parking sector, in anticipation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco and the 2030 World Cup.
The municipality of Casablanca wants to put an end to the illegal car attendants who are sowing chaos in the city. Nabila Rmili, the mayor of the city, recently announced the suspension of the issuance and renewal of individual licenses for car, motorcycle and other vehicle parking lots. A note to this effect has been sent to the district chiefs, with the approval of the Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region.
Professionals believe it is time to regulate this sector in the face of the extent of the "yellow vest" phenomenon, these illegal car attendants who harass and defraud citizens. These unscrupulous individuals represent "an anomaly and have no connection with the regulated attendants," denounces a local association actor.
According to the official, "the Covid-19 pandemic that hit Morocco contributed to the emergence of this category which has considerably damaged the image of the regulated attendants." The professional added that "the regulated attendants, with rental licenses and operating the municipal domain, number around 200,000 people," stressing that the latter "pay taxes and generate significant revenue for the municipality of Casablanca each year."
The association official also indicated that the professionals, gathered within the association he chairs, are working on the implementation of a uniform to distinguish them from the "yellow vests." For his part, the secretary general of the union office of the prefecture of Casablanca, affiliated to the Democratic Confederation of Labor, believes that "the adoption of a delegated management system through a local development company for vehicle parking" is illegal, as it is detrimental to citizens.
