Casablanca Mayor Reveals $50 Million Missing from District Budgets

The assessment of public finance management at the Casablanca city hall revealed irregularities in the resources of the districts. 500 million dirhams have disappeared from their cultural and social programs, revealed mayor Nabila Rmili.
This envelope represents the surpluses of previous budgets and should be used to redirect action and development plans, said the mayor who summoned the heads of the 16 districts, during the last extraordinary session of the municipal council, reports Assabah.
During this session, Rmili reminded the district presidents that in case of refusal, she will be "obliged to activate the laws in force in order to recover the money" not invested in proximity programs to meet the expectations of the city’s inhabitants.
Furthermore, the president of the Casablanca municipality announced that the city will "increase the allocations granted to the districts, from 7 to 10%, in order to enable them to carry out the various proximity activities and programs in the social, cultural and sports fields".
She specified that the new distribution of allocations took into account the number of inhabitants per municipal district, which allowed three districts to see their allocation increased, according to the same source.
