Casablanca’s New Mayor Faces $30 Million Debt for Unpaid Employee Promotions

Nabila Rmili, the new mayor of Casablanca, must face a debt of more than 300 million dirhams left by the former masters of the municipal council.
This amount represents the arrears that the former mayor and his team have not paid since 2017 to civil servants, reports the daily Assabah, specifying that these are amounts that should have been paid to thousands of civil servants who have passed their exams to benefit from promotions.
According to the figures, in 2018 alone, 5,800 middle managers in the Casablanca civil service passed their move to a higher scale, without receiving the corresponding revaluations. More than 260 senior executives would have had to receive 3,600 dirhams per month since their "promotion".
As soon as she took office, the new mayor was questioned on this file which, according to the employees’ union, is of strategic importance, reports the newspaper.
