Casablanca’s Maârif District Faces Safety Concerns as Renovated Street Crumbles

Collapse of the newly installed tiles, a dry fountain - which adorns the middle of the square -, seriously damaged and out of service... The renovation work carried out for four years could not restore the former charm of Oussama Ibnou Zaïd, the former Jura street. The pedestrian street has lost its charm.

The renovation work started in 2016 and was completed but poorly done. Prince My Abdellah Street, another pedestrian street, suffered the same fate. The elected officials of the Maârif district did not keep their promise, that of making this architectural jewel of the past shine again, notes L’Économiste.

No facelift, no renovation of the Ben Barka square (in front of the mosque and the market). As for the asphalting and tiling work on the alleys of this commercial district, they are far from meeting expectations.
