Casablanca to Launch High-Capacity Bus Rapid Transit System by 2022

Casablanca will have its "bus way" or high-level service buses (BHNS) by 2022.

The BHNS differs from the tramway in terms of capacity: the former has about 200 seats while the latter has 600 seats. Preparatory work on lines 5 and 6 in BHNS mode and network diversions are nearing completion. On the SDL Casa-Transports side, competing offers are being analyzed. The plan is to choose the service provider who will start by the next school year. 2020 will mark the commissioning of the BHNS on 7-meter-wide paved lanes, raised 14 cm and closed to traffic, reports L’Économiste.

Line 5 will connect the Salmia district to Lissasfa, serving the Al Laymoun, Al Qods, Mohammed VI, Moqdad Lahrizi and Al Joulane boulevards. With 20 passenger stations along a 12.5 km route, this line will offer 2 connection points with the T1 and T3 tramway lines. As for line 6, it will have 19 stations for a length of 10 km. Equipped with a connection point with line 2 of the tramway, it will connect the Errahma district to the Oulmès roundabout on Gandhi Boulevard via provincial road 3014 and the My Touhami and Yaâcoub Al Mansour boulevards. The total cost of the 2 lines is 1.8 billion DH.
