Casablanca Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Structures, Clearing Public Spaces

The liberation of the public domain is intensifying in Casablanca. In this sense, several brigades went on Tuesday, December 10, to El Oulfa and Hay Hassani (Boulevard Al Firdaous) where stores, small gardens and developed spaces... were demolished.
The objective of this deterrent operation is to free the public domain by razing any unauthorized construction. In action, nearly 130 people (including caïds, moqaddems, police officers, district president...), reports L’Economiste.
The target: cafes and restaurants, stores, grocery stores, shops, small gardens and developed spaces... This campaign to demolish non-compliant terraces does not spare establishments belonging to notables (including local elected officials...).
After Hay Hassani, the brigades will go to Maârif, Anfa and Sidi Belyout next week for the same exercise. The terraces of more than 200 cafes, restaurants or shops will be demolished in the coming weeks.
In total, more than 17,000 reports have already been drawn up by the 150 administrative police agents. 100 agents will join them next January, it is specified.
On Tuesday, November 26, the non-compliant terraces of about twenty cafes had been demolished in Hay Hassani in Casablanca.
