Casablanca Imposes Strict Travel Restrictions as COVID-19 Cases Surge

The worrying increase in Covid-19 cases in Casablanca has prompted local authorities to tighten access and transit conditions in the city. Any offender will be liable to a heavy fine.
The balance sheet of infections in Casablanca over the past 72 hours is chilling: 4,142 people tested positive and 45 deaths. Questioned, the police prefect outlined the new measures put in place to fight the epidemic in this city, the epicenter of Covid-19.
According to Abdellah El Ouardi, checkpoints have been set up at the various entrances and exits of the city. According to him, any vehicle not having the mandatory travel authorization will have to turn around and is liable to a fine of 300 DH.
According to the prefect, all vehicles including buses are systematically checked. As for passengers without authorization, they are also turned away.
He also recalled that vehicles that do not use the highway and transit through the metropolis are also affected by these restrictive measures.
