Casablanca’s Historic Central Market to Undergo $1.5 Million Transformation into Upscale Food Hall

Another symbol of the heritage of Casablanca will go into oblivion. The mythical Central Market, a place known to all Casablancans, will be part of history. The local development company, Casa Aménagement, has decided to transform it into a gastronomic market to international standards.
This initiative will require an investment of 15 million dirhams, just for the rehabilitation. Two state bodies will contribute financially, more precisely, the Ministry of the Interior, to the tune of 8 million dirhams, and 7 million dirhams from the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council.
The Central Market, on Boulevard Mohammed V, has always been popular with city dwellers, due to its location and the freshness of the products on the stalls.
For now, the project is only in its infancy, since the company in charge of its realization has just launched a call for tenders for the selection of the consulting firm that will ensure its feasibility. The specifications are not yet in place.
