Casablanca Faces Potential Lockdown as COVID-19 Cases Surge

The epidemiological situation in Casablanca could lead to the city being locked down again. The health authorities have sent a letter to the Wali of the region.
The city could be locked down again in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The taking of certain exceptional decisions under the state of health emergency also confirms this eventuality. Three neighborhoods have already been closed. In Hay Mohammadi, the local authorities have taken some measures, including the formal prohibition of broadcasting sports matches in cafes in the Anfa district.
Likewise, other neighborhoods of this prefecture have been closed. We can mention, among others, Tahar Alaoui Avenue, Mouna Oussaïd and Abderrahmane Moukhanate streets, Bab Marrakech, Bab Jedid and Pour Jedid. The local authorities have installed control points (checkpoints) on the access roads to the central market, Ben J’dia and Chaouia.
In Al-Fida Derb Soltane, the access roads to Béni M’guil Avenue have been closed after the detection of cases of contamination in a family. Many cafes and public places in Derb Soltane have also been closed for non-compliance with the state of health emergency and physical distancing.
