Casablanca: The dark side of a real estate nightmare

For the past ten years, 150 families in the Jardins Al Miaraj residence in Casablanca have been living a real ordeal. The reason? Cracks that keep appearing, turning their home into an open-air construction site.
The problems started just a few months after delivery. The contractor then embarked on an endless cycle of repairs, citing a "damp" material defect that needed to be replaced. But the cracks persisted, leaving the residents in anguish and uncertainty, according to Al3omk.
Faced with the ineffectiveness of the repairs, the residents decided to call on the union office to demand a technical expertise by a reliable public laboratory, the LPEE. But in vain.
As time passed and the ten-year warranty was approaching, the contractor commissioned a private laboratory to conduct an expertise, without consulting the residents or informing them of the process. The expert report remained secret, fueling rumors and fear.
Exasperated by the opacity and inaction of the authorities, some residents decided to turn to the courts to obtain an independent expertise. Alarming rumors about subsidence and the sliding of the buildings towards a neighboring former quarry add to the panic.
Despite the potential dangers, repair work continues, without providing any guarantee of safety to the families. The situation is very difficult to live with: the residents feel taken hostage in an administrative and legal maze, with no end in sight.
