Casablanca Crackdown: Police Remove 70+ Illegal Terraces in Citywide Public Space Cleanup

The administrative police agents continue relentlessly the operations to free the public space in Casablanca. They carried out a surprise raid in Lissasfa last week.
On this occasion, the administrative police agents proceeded to demolish more than 70 terraces of cafes, restaurants and various businesses in this neighborhood where the occupation of public space seems to be the most widespread, reports L’Economiste. After the Lissasfa stage, they will set their sights on the Anfa, Sidi Belyout and Maârif districts.
The administrative police conduct these operations three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). It destroys an average of about sixty terraces per day. In total, more than 300 cafes have been demolished since the launch of these operations.
Some establishments occupy public space without paying fees, while others operate without authorization. About 2,000 or 3,000 establishments are authorized to operate out of the 22,000 listed in Casablanca.
