More than 160 people benefited from the "Joud Digne Shower Truck" operation in Casablanca. It was launched on December 2 by the association for the benefit of the homeless during this cold period.
After a week of experimentation, the shower truck allowed more than a hundred homeless people in Casablanca to benefit from a hot shower inside. In addition to the shower service, these people receive medical care and a visit to the hairdresser, reports Médias24.com. These homeless people also brush their teeth, get their nails done and also receive a new clothing pack (sweatpants, underwear, a pair of shoes, a pair of socks and a wool hat), the same source specifies.
The mobile shower truck is equipped with a 2,000-liter water tank, connections to fire hydrants, electric water heaters, 4 shower cubicles. It also has a hairdresser’s position, and 2 others for shaving, clean clothing and shoe storage, a digital recognition device, surveillance cameras, it is indicated.
After Casablanca, this initiative will also be launched in the other cities where the association is present, namely Rabat, El Jadida and Marrakech. The association welcomes an average of thirty homeless people per night. It plans to welcome 8,000 per year in Casablanca.
Its vocation, since its creation in 2015, is to help the homeless by offering them hot meals, clothes, blankets, and even medicines. In just four years, Jood has increased the number of meals distributed to more than 6,000 per month. Nearly 3,000 volunteers are mobilized to carry out these operations, we learn.
