Morocco Unveils Extensive Cold Wave Response Plan for Mountain Regions

Noureddine Boutayeb, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, listed the major measures planned under the "Riaya" program for the efficient management of the cold wave in the mountainous regions. This was last Tuesday before the House of Councillors.
745 mobile medical units, 465 ambulances, 1,162 helicopter landing strips, 26,000 tons of firewood to be distributed. This is the arsenal that Noureddine Boutayeb, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, plans to deploy as part of the management of cold waves in the mountainous regions.
In addition, reports Map, more than 1,480 snow removal vehicles for the restoration of traffic, as well as 1,003 drivers of these vehicles, including 272 others to be recruited under contract. The Interior also plans to ensure the supply of fodder for livestock, the restoration and equipment of shelters against snow to accommodate road users, in addition to strengthening weather stations.
For the management of the 2019-2020 phase, the minister stressed that a total of 1,753 douars belonging to 232 local authorities across 27 provinces, with a population estimated at 736,000 people, will benefit from the advantages of the National Plan to Combat the Cold Wave.
Furthermore, Noureddine Boutayeb recalled several other measures taken to help the population get through this period in peace. These include the normal supply of basic products to the regions concerned, the census of the homeless and the care of pregnant women in maternity homes and health centers.
