Casablanca Bus Scandal Exposes Systemic Violence and Oversight Failures

The dissemination of videos showing bus inspectors physically assaulting passengers has provoked strong reactions on social media in Casablanca. Faced with the outrage, the Casa Bus company, which operates the Alsa network, announced in a press release the opening of an "urgent internal investigation" and promised measures.
The controversy was triggered by several video sequences. One shows an inspector punching a user. Others expose agents carrying out body searches deemed "humiliating" by Internet users, acts that are not within their prerogatives.
These images, described as "barbarism" by many activists, have raised a debate on the role of inspectors. For users, their mission "is limited to asking for the ticket or noting an offense" and does not "in any way give them the right to resort to violence".
Commentators believe that these behaviors reveal a "deep flaw in the company’s recruitment and training system". They describe agents who would act "with the mentality of a neighborhood boss rather than that of a responsible employee".
Some inspectors tried to justify their actions by citing difficult working conditions, insults and fraud-related assaults. This argument was rejected by many Internet users, who believe that pressure cannot excuse violence and rather demonstrates a "failure of the company to provide its employees with the tools" for conflict management.
