CAS Rejects Al Ahly’s Appeal: CAF Champions League Final to Proceed in Morocco

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected, on Thursday, Al Ahly’s request to postpone the 2022 CAF Champions League final. The match is therefore maintained for Monday, May 30 at 8 p.m., Moroccan time.
The Egyptian club Al Ahly had appealed to CAF to request the postponement of the 2022 CAF Champions League final scheduled in Morocco. The African body rejected this request from the club, which ultimately appealed to CAS. The verdict has just been handed down: the match is maintained in Morocco.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld CAF’s decision and rejected Al Ahly’s request to postpone the Champions League final, the African football body said in a statement.
"The organization of this match was awarded to Morocco after Senegal, which was the only other country to meet the conditions, withdrew its candidacy," the CAS wrote.
However, CAF has committed to respecting the principles of fairness, justice and equality of all member clubs and associations and will treat all member clubs and associations fairly and equitably in all circumstances, the note states.
