Canary Islands Leader to Push for Reopening of Key Morocco-Spain Maritime Route

The reopening of the maritime route connecting Fuerteventura to Tarfaya will be at the heart of the official visit to Morocco on March 15 and 16, by the president of the autonomous government of the Canary Islands, Angel Victor Torres.
The Fuerteventura-Tarfaya line was closed in 2008 after an accident. Given the importance of this maritime link, Angel Victor Torres announced in 2022 during a session in parliament, his intention to address the issue during his visit to Morocco.
He stressed before the parliament that the restoration of this line will allow the Canary Islands to recover a market that has worked and could have continued to serve the interests of the two countries, had it not been for the accident of the ship Assalama which was operating the link off Tarfaya.
