CAN 2025: Artificial intelligence has decided, here are the two favorites for the final
According to the projections of the Opta statistics network based on artificial intelligence, Morocco and Senegal are the selections most likely to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. Before the semi-finals scheduled for this Wednesday, the analyses place the host country and the Lions of Teranga in a strong position against Nigeria and Egypt.
Opta’s predictive model, which is based on performance data, historical trends and indicators from the current competition, gives a statistical advantage to the Moroccan and Senegalese selections. For the confrontation between Morocco and Nigeria, artificial intelligence predicts a qualification of the Atlas Lions with a probability of 57.15%.
This forecast is based on the consistency of the host’s level of play, the technical stability maintained under the direction of coach Walid Regragui and the influence of key players like Achraf Hakimi. Facing them, Nigeria retains a qualification chance estimated at 42.85%, a narrow margin that underscores the proximity of level between the two teams, the Super Eagles being able to count on the efficiency of their top scorer Victor Osimhen.
In the second semi-final, Senegal starts with the statistical favors to reach the final with a probability of victory of 55.13% against 44.87% for Egypt. This numerical superiority is explained by the ascendancy taken by Senegal in major direct confrontations in recent years, notably during the 2022 CAN final and the qualifications for the World Cup in Qatar. The Pharaohs, led by their captain Mohamed Salah, will have to reverse this historical trend to hope to secure their ticket for the final.
The table for this last four has been completed on Saturday evening at the end of a quarter-finals rich in twists and turns. Egypt validated their ticket after a spectacular 3-2 victory over defending champions Côte d’Ivoire, thus joining Senegal who had won 1-0 against Mali. For its part, Morocco qualified more serenely by beating Cameroon 2-0, while Nigeria reached the semi-finals after eliminating Algeria by the same score.
