CAF Relocates Guinea’s World Cup Qualifiers After Military Coup

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided that the match between Morocco and Guinea, which was postponed due to the military coup that occurred in Conakry, will no longer be played in Guinea. The same will apply to all matches scheduled to be held in this country as part of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
CAF has sent a letter to the Secretary General of the Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT), in which it prohibits him from hosting all qualifying matches in Guinea, including the one scheduled with the Moroccan national team. This decision was made for security reasons, due to the coup that took place in Conakry.
The African football body has therefore decided to relocate all of Guinea’s international matches. "In these circumstances and despite the love and passion of the public for football in Guinea, you will understand given the current situation, that it is difficult to envisage the organization of international matches on Guinean territory," CAF wrote in its letter.
"The safety of the actors, officials and spectators in the stadium and its surroundings is paramount and non-negotiable during international matches. For these reasons, we cannot, in the current context, and until further notice, schedule international matches in Guinea. Those that were planned will have to be played outside," the same source adds. The Guinea vs Morocco match, if it were to be held, will take place on neutral ground. The two teams are still awaiting the decision of FIFA regarding the date and venue of this match.
