CAF Cup: Algeria-Morocco Airspace Dispute Threatens JSK vs AS FAR Match

Algeria’s decision to close its airspace to Moroccan civilian and military aircraft and those with a Moroccan registration number is having a negative impact on the two-legged tie of the 2022 CAF Cup second round between Jeunesse sportive de Kabylie (JSK) and the Moroccan club of the Royal Armed Forces of Rabat (AS FAR).
While the first leg will take place on October 16 in Rabat, Morocco and the return leg on October 24 in Tizi-Ouzou, JSK has not found a special flight to travel from Algeria to Morocco to play against AS FAR. "As everyone knows, the borders between Algeria and Morocco are closed and without a special flight, we will not be able to reach Morocco. In other words, we risk forfeiting," JSK president Yazid Yarichène told the daily Compétition.
He has more despair than hope. The official says that the efforts with the Algerian Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as the Algerian Football Federation, have been fruitless. "I admit that we have no other choices before us and that’s why we have seized the MYS and the FAF, but we haven’t received any response yet. I hope there will be news in the next few hours," he adds.
On September 22, Algeria had decided to "immediately close" its airspace to all Moroccan aircraft, against the backdrop of a diplomatic crisis.
