CAF Cancels U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco Due to COVID-19 Concerns

The emergency committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has cancelled the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for March 13-30 in Morocco. The epidemiological situation in several countries is the reason for this expected decision.
No African Cup of Nations for the under-17 category. This is at least what can be taken from the meeting of the CAF emergency committee in Rabat. At the end of this major meeting and after the various scenarios proposed, the pan-African body decided to cancel the CAN, due to the resurgence of the second wave of infections in several African countries.
This decision was also made due to the closure of borders between Morocco and countries in the region and following the refusal of several European clubs to release their players to participate in this competition.
A few days ago, several national teams informed CAF of the difficulties they were encountering. In addition, several European countries have required a quarantine period of at least 14 days for players upon their return; which does not at all suit the clubs. On Saturday, March 6, Morocco had closed its doors to Algerian players due to the suspension of flights to Algeria, decided by the Moroccan authorities due to the health crisis.
