British Home Cooks Embrace Moroccan Cuisine in Top 20 Global Food Trends

Moroccan cuisine is in the top 20 of the cuisines preferred by the British. They are trying to reproduce Moroccan and other national dishes at home.

Moroccan cuisine ranks 15th in the ranking of the 20 international cuisines that the British want to reproduce at home, established for Jongga as part of a survey of 2,000 adults. Philippine cuisine tops the ranking. It is followed by Brazilian and Vietnamese cuisines. Lebanese cuisine ranks 10th. Then come Australian, Polish and Ukrainian cuisines. Japanese, German and Thai cuisines complete the top 20. Among the younger generations who have already prepared international dishes, 43% were inspired by social media.

Morocco ranks 13th in the top 20 of the cuisines preferred by the British. Italian cuisine tops the ranking, followed by Chinese cuisine. Indian cuisine completes the top 3. Turkish cuisine is in 11th place. Then comes Caribbean cuisine. Lebanese cuisine takes 16th place, behind German and Vietnamese cuisines and ahead of Malaysian and South Korean cuisines. African and Brazilian cuisines bring up the rear of the podium.

The survey reveals that more than half (54%) of adults want to travel more to discover authentic international dishes from different countries. This figure reaches almost two-thirds (62%) for members of Generation Z. "When you see the data and the globe-trotting nature of the nation’s taste buds, it’s impressive. [...] Unfortunately, for many of them, the current economic situation does not allow them to take off and try as many international cuisines as they would like," said Jennifer Lee, head of the Global Food business unit at Jongga.

And she adds: "Fortunately for them, many British supermarkets - not to mention specialty stores - sell ingredients that would once have required traveling thousands of kilometers to find."
