Border Closure Leaves 9,000 Moroccan Workers Jobless in Spanish Enclaves

The situation is more than explosive around Ceuta and Melilla. More than 9,000 Moroccans under contract with companies in the two Spanish enclaves are deprived of income due to the closure of the borders.
In parliament, the deputies of the majority and opposition parties met on Monday to request the urgent intervention of the Ministry of the Interior. For the PAM and PJD elected officials, it is a matter of survival for 9,000 Moroccan citizens.
Several demonstrations, some of which were banned by the authorities, had been organized in Tetouan and Nador, reports the site Alyaoum24, which stresses that the majority of Moroccan workers have lost their jobs following the closure of the borders.
The Moroccan government had decided, last March, to close the border crossings of Ceuta and Melilla. In the meantime, occasional repatriation operations have been organized for Moroccans stranded in the two Spanish enclaves.
