Border Agents Arrested in Spain-Morocco Migrant Smuggling Scheme

A member of the Moroccan security forces and a Spanish agent stationed at the Melilla border have been arrested by the Civil Guard for allowing migrants to cross the border in exchange for 7,000 euros per person.
The two agents are accused of not having checked the passports of the migrants at the Beni Enzar border, in exchange for a large sum of around 7,000 euros per migrant, according to sources close to the case who spoke to La Razón, specifying that the investigation conducted by the Civil Guard of Melilla is ongoing and could lead to further arrests. The two Moroccan and Spanish agents were arrested thanks to the police cooperation between their two countries, a local Moroccan source points out.
The Moroccan security services are said to have provided "valuable information to their Iberian Peninsula counterparts on the involvement of certain elements of the Spanish security services in criminal networks," it is reported. According to the investigation carried out by the competent services of the two countries, "the members of this network involved in illegal immigration have received sums of money ranging from 70,000 to 100,000 dirhams (6,000 and 7,000 euros) for each person."
