Bordeaux Midfielder Mehdi Zerkane Chooses Algeria National Team Over Morocco
The midfielder of the Girondins de Bordeaux, Mehdi Zerkane, explains the reasons that led him to choose Algeria as his sports nationality instead of Morocco or France.
"The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) had also approached me but my decision was already made. For me it’s been Algeria since I was little. I have a little brother who chose Morocco, but for me it’s always been Algeria," said the native of Clermont-Ferrand, a guest on the show "C’est Vous l’Expert".
At the age of 9, he was already dreaming of one day joining the Fennecs. "I was at Chelsea’s training center for tests with my father and uncle. During the stadium tour, we ran into an Algerian and he asked me if I wanted to choose Algeria or France and I immediately answered Algeria. I was nine years old at the time," the Bordeaux midfielder confided.
