Benzema Cites Islamic Faith as Key Factor in Saudi Arabia Move

Karim Benzema, the now former striker of Real Madrid, expressed his enthusiasm for his new club Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. In his first French interview since his transfer, Benzema highlighted the fact of playing in a Muslim country and being able to learn Arabic.
In this interview broadcast on the official channels of the Jeddah-based club, the 35-year-old Benzema reiterated his desire to live in Saudi Arabia, expressing his wish to learn to speak Arabic fluently and noting the proximity of Mecca, a place he has already visited and which holds a particular importance for him as a Muslim.
The former French international made it known that his family has welcomed the news of his move, all being enthusiastic about living in Jeddah.
He also expressed particular enthusiasm at the idea of reuniting with his "friend", Cristiano Ronaldo, who was recruited last December by the rival club of Al Nassr. His wish, he said, is to give greater visibility to Saudi football on the world stage, promising to contribute to it by sharing his European experience.
