Before prison, the personal call from King Mohammed VI that marked Nicolas Sarkozy
Nicolas Sarkozy confirms having received a call from King Mohammed VI a few days before his entry into La Santé prison on October 21. The former president discusses this exchange and the solidarity expressed by the Moroccan sovereign in his book The Diary of a Prisoner, to be published on December 10.
The information, initially reported by Africa Intelligence, is also found in this 216-page book published by Fayard. The Monarch contacted the former Head of State to express his « full support » before his incarceration. Nicolas Sarkozy maintains very strong relations with Morocco, displaying his closeness and admiration for the King.
Sentenced in the first instance on September 25 to five years in prison with a committal order for criminal conspiracy, Nicolas Sarkozy spent three weeks in detention. He appealed this decision and will be retried by the Paris Court of Appeal between March 16 and June 3, 2026. He continues to proclaim his innocence in the face of these accusations.
While a dozen African leaders sought to reach the former president before his incarceration, it is this exchange with Rabat that he chose to recount.
