Barcelona on High Alert: US Warns of Potential Holiday Terror Threat

The US authorities have just alerted the Spanish police about a possible terrorist attack for the end-of-year holidays.
It would be, according to the newspaper El Pais, a 30-year-old Moroccan, holder of a bus driver’s license, who could carry out this attack in a tourist area.
"Spain: exercise increased caution in areas with vehicle movements including buses, in the Ramblas area of Barcelona at Christmas and New Year’s," the US State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs warns on its Twitter account.
"Terrorists may commit an attack (...) and target tourist areas, transportation or other public areas," it is also written.
The regional police of Catalonia have not officially reacted to this alert but acknowledged, with AFP, "a temporary reinforcement of security measures in high-traffic areas."
In August 2017, the center of Barcelona had been targeted by a terrorist attack that left 14 dead.
