Balearia Ferry Collides with Container Ship in Alboran Sea, No Injuries Reported

A ship from the Balearia company that operates the Malaga-Melilla route collided on Saturday with a container ship in the high seas of the Alboran Sea. No injuries were reported.
"None of the passengers of the two ships were injured," said the Spanish shipping company, which assured that the crew took care of them after activating the safety protocol and alerting the maritime rescue service of Almeria, reported Melilla Hoy.

The shipping company stressed that "the slight collision with one of the Laust Maersk container ships did not prevent the Napoles ship from continuing its journey to its destination," however noting some material damage. An investigation will be opened to determine the causes of the incident.
The ship arrived in Melilla on time (06:30 am) and the passengers disembarked normally, the shipping company assured. Pending the repair of the Napoles ship, Baleària has decided to put the ferry Sicilia into service to serve the Melilla route. The next departure is scheduled for this Sunday at 11:30 am to Motril.
