Baleària Boosts Spain-Morocco Ferry Service Ahead of Summer Travel Rush

The maritime company Baleària has strengthened its connection between Tarifa and Tangier City by adding a second vessel. Since May 23, the fast ferry Jaume I has joined the fleet, increasing the number of daily departures from four to six on this route opened on May 8.
This increase in capacity, which allows for an additional 600 passengers and 150 vehicles, anticipates the increased demand related to Operation Marhaba dedicated to Moroccans residing abroad (MRE). Baleària plans to adjust rotations to reach eight to twelve departures per day depending on the influx. Georges Bassoul, General Manager, reaffirmed the company’s commitment: "We will offer a comfortable and punctual service to all those who place their trust in Baleària."
Present in Morocco for over twenty years, Baleària now operates four lines between the two countries, including connections from Tangier-Med and Nador. The company, which holds the concession for berth 3 in Tarifa, also offers tourist excursions to Tangier.
At the same time, Baleària is investing in the future with the order of two 100% electric ferries, expected for 2027. These ships, built by the Armon shipyards in Gijón, aim to create the first maritime "green corridor" between Spain and Morocco.
Each boat will have a power of 16 MW from 11,500 kWh batteries, supplemented by backup generators. An innovative system of robotic arms will ensure complete battery recharging in one hour during each stopover, via an onshore power supply (OPS).
