Automotive Suppliers Shift Production from Ukraine to Morocco Amid War

Due to the war in Ukraine, several automotive suppliers are relocating their activities abroad, particularly to Morocco.
This is the case of Aptiv, an Irish company specializing in automotive electrical parts and cables, which has decided to suspend its activities in Ukraine and relocate to Morocco. Present in Morocco for more than two decades, the automotive supplier has several production units in Tangier, Kenitra and Meknes, it is reported.
To this end, it has started the construction of a new wiring plant in Oujda, for a total financing of nearly 400 million dirhams. This facility, whose first phase will be completed next June, will cover an area of 8 hectares and provide 3,500 direct jobs.
In addition to this supplier, the Japanese manufacturer of electrical wires and fiber optic cables Sumitomo will also transfer its production to Morocco. "This process will take up to six weeks, leaving some automakers short of parts during this period," says AP.
