Automobile: The Chinese wave submerges Morocco

The Moroccan automotive market recorded growth of 36.14% in the first half of 2025, with a total of 112,026 new vehicles registered, according to data from the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM). This performance confirms the strong momentum of the sector’s recovery.

In detail, the passenger vehicle (VP) segment grew by 34.11% to reach 99,309 units sold. The increase is even more pronounced for the light commercial vehicle (VUL) segment, which posted a jump of 54.37% with 12,717 registrations in the first six months of the year. The month of June alone confirms this trend, with 23,298 units sold, an increase of 34.14% compared to June 2024.

In the passenger vehicle segment, Dacia maintains its first place in June with 5,613 units, representing 24.54% market share. However, the competition is showing significant progress. Renault saw its sales increase by 62.66%, while Peugeot recorded the strongest growth in the top 5 with +80.22%. Hyundai is consolidating its third position with a 41.5% increase.

At the same time, the progress of Chinese brands is a fundamental trend. BYD in particular performed very strongly, going from 11 units in June 2024 to 412 in June 2025 (+3,645%). Other manufacturers such as Changan (+85.15%) and Geely (+115.71%) have also recorded strong growth, taking advantage of their positioning on the electrified and technological segments.

The premium segment is also undergoing a restructuring, with Audi taking the first place in June (492 units), ahead of BMW (433 units). For its part, Mercedes is returning to growth (301 units). Regarding light commercial vehicles, Renault is largely in the lead with 503 units sold in June, an increase of 94.94%, followed by Fiat and DFSK.

Several factors explain this overall dynamic, including a recovery in domestic demand, more flexible financing conditions, and the launch of strategic products. If the trend observed in the first half of the year continues, projections estimate that the market could reach a volume of 180,000 to 200,000 registrations for the full year 2025.
