Arthur Dethrones Mohammed as Top Baby Name in Belgium, New Data Shows

The list of the most popular first names in Belgium in 2019 has been updated on the Statbel government website. In the new ranking established this year, the names Emma and Mohammed have been dethroned in favor of Arthur and Olivia.
The name Mohammed has remained at the top of the most popular first names in Belgium since 1995. This prime position it has held in the minds of many parents is now occupied by another first name. Arthur has snatched the spotlight from him, relegating him to the last place in the top 10. According to the dhnet.be site, it is Arthur who tops the list of the most popular first names, with a total of 610 in 2019. He is followed by Liam (575), Louis (549), Noah (545), Adam (504), Jules (470), Lucas (451), Victor (449), Gabriel (391) and Mohamed (357).
As for the most popular female first names, Emma, who held the first place for 16 years, has also been dethroned. Families in Flanders as well as in Wallonia now have a weakness for Olivia, of whom 651 were born in 2019. This name is followed by Emma (563), Mila (518), Louise (515), Alice (407), Lina (388), Juliette (378), Anna (349), Elena (347) and Lucie (343).
According to the same source, Athéna, Divine, Miracle, Jolie, Lovely or Mélodie are the least popular female first names in 2019. On the side of the less common but bold male first names, new babies bear the name Zinedine, Rares, Priam, Olaf or even Jazz and Django.
