Mohamed Tops Brussels Baby Name Rankings for Second Year

For the second consecutive year, the name Mohamed tops all records in Brussels. This is what Statbel indicated in its ranking of the most popular first names in 2021 in Belgium and regions.
While the name Mohamed is at the top for boys, for little girls it is rather Lina who outclasses all other names, as it was given to 89 girls. Behind Lina, there is Sofia given to 83 children, followed by the name Emma given to 60 girls. In the top 10 of female first names in 2021, there are Lina, Sofia, Emma, Nour, Olivia, Eva, Victoria, Amira, Alice, Aya.
For little boys, 118 babies were named Mohamed in 2021. A year earlier, the name was also at the top of the ranking with 148 babies named Mohamed. It is followed by Adam (112), and Amir (70). In the top 10 of male first names in 2021, we find Mohamed, Adam, Amir, Yanis, Gabriel, Noah, Imran, Arthur, Lucas, Rayan.
Nationally, it is Olivia who is in the lead, and for the third year, dethroning Emma after 16 years of reign. For boys, Noah is the most popular name, ahead of Arthur, at the top of the ranking for three years.
