Arsenal Sidelines Guendouzi After Misconduct and On-Field Altercation
Mattéo Guendouzi’s many clashes with his teammates and his coach have finally gotten him into trouble. Indeed, Arsenal has decided to sideline the former Lorient player for whom it spent 8 million euros.
Mattéo Guendouzi is a player of Moroccan origin, known for his strong character. He had refused to respond to Hervé Renard’s invitation to join the Atlas Lions in 2017. Even today, he is making headlines in less than glorious terms.
According to the local press, he would have been guilty of "a fit of rage during the match between the Gunners and Brighton" by violently assaulting an opposing player by grabbing him by the throat. It took the intervention of his teammates to end the fight.
Examples of the facts illustrating the reproaches made to the player are legion. According to France Football, "he would have lost the favor of Mikel Arteta during the mid-season training camp in Dubai last January, by provoking a clash with Greek defender Sokratis". The tone quickly rose between the coach and the Franco-Moroccan player to the point where the Spanish tactician promised "never to forgive this deplorable attitude".
Relations between the two men are becoming increasingly difficult, as the English press reports that "the coach would have summoned Guendouzi to a meeting to give him a chance to make amends. But he refused to apologize to the management and his teammates." A fatal decision that pushes the club to try to sell him.
