Argentina Stars Missing as Morocco Faces Depleted Squad in Friendly Match
Friday 1 March 2019, by
While the FRMF had demanded the presence of all the stars for the friendly match (for which the federation will pay 1.5 million euros) against the Argentine Albiceleste, we learn that many "stars" will be absent. Including Mauro Icardi.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) had insisted that all the stars of the Argentine national team be present for the match against the Atlas Lions, yet we have just been informed of numerous absences, including the very notable one of Mauro Icardi, the star striker of Inter Milan.
The latter would have been sanctioned by his club, and the Argentine federation would have followed suit. On the other hand, Icardi claims that it is an injury that keeps him off the field and from the friendlies scheduled against Morocco and Venezuela.
Other notable absences are those of Sergio Aguero, also a striker, from Manchester City and Sergio Romero, the goalkeeper of Manchester United. According to the YTC website, Messi will be there, as well as Dario Bendetto, and Esteban Andrada, both from Boca Juniors, the former being a striker and the latter a goalkeeper. A good selection nonetheless by Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni.
The final list will be revealed on March 3rd. The match, which is part of the preparations of the Atlas Lions for the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2019), will take place on March 26 in Tangier at 8:00 p.m. local time.
