Arab Interior Ministers Propose New Counterterrorism Measures

The fight against terrorism is a worrying issue in the Arab region and around the world. The terrorist attacks perpetrated here and there prove that "this phenomenon has neither religion, nor color, nor nation," said the Secretary General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, Mohamed Ben Ali Koman, on Sunday in Tunis.

In his speech, the Secretary General said that the Council is considering setting up a working group that will allow them to detect terrorist threats and analyze terrorist acts. He also noted that the Council has worked over the past three years to strengthen cooperative relations with the relevant bodies at the Arab and international level (Interpol, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime...).

For his part, the Saudi Minister of Interior, Prince Abdelaziz Ben Saud, honorary president of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, welcomed the important achievements made by the Council, such as the "fruitful cooperation" between Arab countries in the fight against terrorism and organized crime in its various forms. "We are all facing today enormous challenges, including immigration, organized crime and terrorism. Hence the need to combine our efforts in terms of exchange of expertise and experience," he insisted.

On the agenda of this new session was the examination of a report by the Secretary General of the Council on the work of the General Secretariat during the period between the 36th and 37th sessions of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers and the report of the Arab Naef University of Security Sciences on its actions between the two sessions of the Council.

In addition to the Secretary General’s report, this session focused on the examination of issues related to Arab cooperation in the security fields, in particular the fight against cross-border terrorism and the development of essential plans to combat cybercrime and organized crime.
