The Arab Ministerial Council of Electricity has recently validated the final amended version of the general convention and the convention of the common Arab electricity market. During this extraordinary session, organized by videoconference, which brought together the Arab energy ministers, including the Moroccan Minister of Energy, Mines and Environment, the council invited the Arab member states to approve the governance documents at the level of each country before the end of 2020, reports Aujourd’hui le Maroc.
The objective is to have them presented by the Council Secretariat to the other specialized Ministerial Councils at the beginning of 2021, in order to initiate the procedures for activating the common Arab electricity market.
According to the same daily, the implementation of the convention of the common Arab market aims to achieve energy integration at the level of Arab countries. It also aims to establish the foundations for the exchange and trade of electrical energy.
In the long term, it will have a significant impact at the economic, social and environmental levels, particularly in terms of the development of the renewable energy-based electricity sector and the creation of new jobs in the Arab countries.
