Arab League Rejects US-Israeli Middle East Peace Plan

The Council of the Arab League condemned, on Saturday in Cairo, the Arab rejection of the American-Israeli "deal of the century".
This unilateral plan does not respond to the fundamental rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people. It is at odds with the international peace frameworks and relevant United Nations resolutions, as well as Washington’s call to respect international references for a just, lasting and comprehensive peace approach, the Council of the Arab League said in a statement released at the end of an extraordinary session attended by the Foreign Ministers.
For the council, there is a need not to cooperate with the US administration in this endeavor. Moreover, the Arab peace initiative remains the basis accepted by the Arab countries to achieve peace, by putting an end to the Israeli occupation of the territories occupied since 1967 and establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Arab Foreign Ministers are counting on the need to find a just and appropriate solution to the issue of Palestinian refugees, in accordance with United Nations General Assembly Resolution 194, adopted in 1948. According to them, the implementation of the Arab peace initiative is a guarantee of the normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab countries.
They also warned against the implementation of the terms of the deal of the century, while expressing their full support for the struggle of the Palestinian people and their national leaders, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas.
