A suspicious envelope containing a white powder was received on Thursday at the Moroccan Consulate in Antwerp. Eight people remained confined inside the building.
Fearing anthrax, local police, civil protection, and firefighter units were dispatched to the scene, according to the Antwerp police spokesman.
Of the 31 employees at the Moroccan Consulate, 23 people who had not touched the letter were evacuated from the building. The other 8, including the Consul General, were isolated for a short time.
Pending the results of the analysis, the 8 employees were allowed to leave the Consulate.
