ANRT Imposes Record Fine on Maroc Telecom to Boost Fixed Broadband Competition

Tuesday 4 February 2020, by Bladi.net

"Remedy this situation with a view to developing competition in the fixed high-speed (voice and Internet) segment, in a way that is likely to benefit consumers and businesses to a greater extent, like mobile." This is the objective of the measures taken by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), last Sunday, in a ruling made public, according to a statement from the operator.

The ANRT, in its ruling, looked into the case of the referral filed against Maroc Telecom regarding the implementation of unbundling. It fined Maroc Telecom which will have to pay the Public Treasury an amount of 3.3 billion dirhams. Other measures, including injunctions with a daily penalty in case of non-compliance, are to be implemented by IAM, the statement said.

This decision, taken by the ANRT Management Committee, follows the investigation of the referral file, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 104-12 on freedom of pricing and competition. The investigation began in May 2017. In this context, IAM and WANA were able to submit their observations.
