UK and Morocco Explore Energy Investment Opportunities, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The Minister of Energy, Mines and Environment, Aziz Rabbah, exchanged with the British Minister of Investment, Gerry Grimstone. The session is part of the strengthening of the partnership in the fields of energy, mines and the environment between the two countries.

These videoconference talks took place on Tuesday, in the presence of the British Ambassador to Morocco, Thomas Reilly. The two ministers welcomed the good relations between Morocco and the United Kingdom and discussed the opportunities for British investment in Morocco as well as the prospects for bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of renewable energies, hydrogen, natural gas, reports la Map which points out that other subjects of common interest were addressed by the two officials.

This includes the opening of the electricity market between Morocco and the United Kingdom through offshore and onshore solar links. Climate change issues were also discussed, in particular "the important role that the United Kingdom, as host of the next Conference of the Parties (COP 26), can play in the transition to clean energy in Morocco".

The Africa-UK Investment Summit, which aims to conclude economic partnerships with African countries in order to increase "British investment in Africa, as well as the role of Morocco, as a regional hub of stability and economic progress, in strengthening the links between Africa and the United Kingdom after Brexit", was not overlooked.

At the end of the videoconference, the two personalities promised to make reciprocal visits, after the stabilization of the health situation caused by the covid-19 pandemic, and "to establish a joint committee to establish a new partnership framework and a roadmap for its implementation.
