Morocco Emerges as Key Renewable Energy Partner for European Union

Relations between Morocco and the European Union are going well. The European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, confirmed this in Paris, stating that Morocco is an "important partner" for the European Union (EU) in the field of renewable energies.
The natural conditions available to the Kingdom are determining factors in the context of this partnership that the EU wishes to see last over time. "We are very open to dialogue in the future" to further strengthen cooperation between the Kingdom and the European Union in this sector, said the European Commissioner, after a meeting with the Minister of Energy, Mines and Environment, Aziz Rabbah.
The minister told MAP that European energy officials and companies are also interested in the national experience in the field of renewable energies. The European Commissioner also mentioned the possibility of making Morocco a platform for the production of electricity for Europe through investments.
During the meeting, the two parties agreed to set up a joint commission and hold meetings next year in Brussels and Rabat. It should be noted the signing between Morocco and the IEA of an action program for the period 2020-2021. This is with the aim of deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy security, renewable energies, energy efficiency, capacity building and data and statistics.
