Alstom Expands Moroccan Rail Presence with $16 Million Factory Investment

Alstom is strengthening its presence in Morocco with an investment of 160 million dirhams in a second railway equipment manufacturing plant. The site will be dedicated to the production of driver’s cabs for regional trains and metros, generating 200 direct jobs by 2025.
This investment comes after the expansion of its plant in Fès in 2020, followed by the opening of a second production line on the same site in 2021, where 850 employees already work, 56% of whom are women.
This project is part of Alstom’s strategic vision to strengthen the kingdom’s rail ecosystem and develop local expertise in the sector. Mama Sougoufara, Managing Director of Alstom MENAT (Middle East, North & Central Africa and Turkey), highlighted the importance of this commitment, stating that "the unique technology transfer from our international sites will enable the creation of a railway center with global know-how in the country." He also expressed his confidence in Morocco’s future as a key rail hub.
Since 2019, Alstom Morocco has invested 320 million dirhams in the development of its industrial activities, contributing to the delivery of 25 international projects. By 2025, the company plans to create 1,200 jobs in the rail sector. Currently, with nearly 950 employees, Alstom has carried out several key projects in Morocco, including signaling and the delivery of 190 Citadis X02 tramways for the cities of Rabat and Casablanca, 12 Avelia Euroduplex trains for the Tangier-Casablanca high-speed line, and 77 Prima locomotives.
