AliExpress to Accept Moroccan Dirham Payments Starting Next Month

The Moroccan dirham is about to make its entry on AliExpress. Starting next month, the Chinese e-commerce platform will allow its Moroccan customers to pay for their purchases directly in their national currency.
A small revolution for consumers in the kingdom, who will thus be able to free themselves from currency conversions and enjoy a simplified shopping experience.
This is not the first time that AliExpress has deployed such an initiative. After the success of local currency payments in Kenya and Nigeria, the company has decided to extend this system to other African countries, including Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, South Africa and Tanzania.
AliExpress is betting on a strategy of adapting to local specificities to conquer new markets. In addition to payment in dirhams, the platform relies on a major asset in Morocco: an optimized logistics allowing express delivery times of 10 days.
Paying in dirhams is a very strong demand from Moroccans. Last year, many Moroccan travelers were upset that they could not pay in the national currency on Ryanair. After intervention by the authorities and several postponements, the airline finally decided to allow payment in dirhams for trips.
