Algerian Raï Singer Cheb Hicham Sentenced to 15 Years for Cocaine Trafficking

The Criminal Court of Oran has handed down its verdict: 15 years in prison for the raï singer, Cheb Hicham, for trafficking in hard drugs (cocaine). Placed under surveillance, his co-defendants, including a Moroccan, eventually fell in flagrante delicto of concluding a transaction involving the acquisition of 1 kg of cocaine and 10,000 Ecstasy tablets, to be delivered to the singer.

The raï singer, Cheb Hicham, is no longer free to move around. The site lexpressiondz.com announces that the artist, who has delighted the sordid nightclubs of the Corniche-ouest in Oran, has fallen into disgrace, in a cocaine case. Alongside him, five other people were also sentenced to 15 years in criminal confinement. Four others, on the other hand, tried in absentia, were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Indeed, thanks to thorough investigations, a drug trafficking network, whose chief dealer is the raï singer, in concert with an associate, known by the nickname "Miloud El Maroki or, also, "Miloud the Moroccan", has been dismantled.

This drug trafficker and associate of the raï singer is the owner of the vehicle in which the cocaine was seized. He was placed under surveillance, from the Commune of Boutlélis, a locality located in the far west of the Wilaya of Oran, going towards the far west of the country. He was finally arrested. In the end, it was proven that the gang of criminals were working under the orders of the raï singer.

To these arrests are added several others, recently carried out by the services of the Anti-Drug Brigade, under the Oran Wilaya Security. They made it possible to carry out huge drug seizures. It is the resurgence of this prohibited trade that leads the media to write that at this rate, Oran is on the way to becoming a "Brooklyn bis", the name of a famous American neighborhood.
