A Dutch national of Moroccan origin was sentenced by the Ghent Court of Appeal in Belgium to 12 years in prison for setting up a drug trafficking network. He is accused, along with his cousin, of having sold more than 210 kilos of heroin, and of causing the death of 3 people who died of overdose.

The 43-year-old individual and his 22-year-old cousin were involved in a hard drug trafficking network operating between Belgium and the Netherlands. The two men were arrested on November 14, 2017, following suspicious phone communications with an international network.

The investigation, led by the Belgian security services, made it possible to identify the young man’s phone number in several files related to drug trafficking. By searching the homes, the Belgian police managed to seize 5 kilos of marijuana, 4 kilos of heroin and 1 kilo of cocaine, as well as 100,000 euros in cash.

According to the investigations supervised by the Public Prosecutor’s Office over five years of activity, the two individuals managed to liquidate more than 211 kilos of heroin and hard drugs to retailers in Bruges, Ostend, and Roeselare. This activity allowed them to generate 2 million euros in profits. The two suspects are also involved in the deaths of 3 people following a heroin overdose, a drug from the network.
