Algeria Severs Diplomatic Ties with Morocco Amid Escalating Tensions

Algeria decided, this Tuesday, to break off its diplomatic relations with Morocco. The reasons for this rupture were detailed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra.
"Algeria has decided to break off its diplomatic relations with Morocco as of today," Ramtane Lamamra said at a press conference held in Algiers. In a statement he read on behalf of the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, he mentioned the reasons for this rupture.
Algiers accuses Morocco of supporting Omar Hilale, the kingdom’s permanent representative to the United Nations, for the "valiant Kabyle people". Another grievance: the statements of the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs during his historic visit to Rabat. Yaïr Lapid had expressed concern "about the role played by" Algeria "in the region, its rapprochement with Iran and the campaign it has waged against the admission of Israel as an observer member of the African Union."
Algeria also accuses Morocco of supporting the Movement for the self-determination of Kabylia (MAK) and the Rachad movement, classified as "terrorist organizations". The Algerian Foreign Minister also recalled the espionage accusations, past incidents, such as the desecration of the Algerian flag at the Casablanca consulate in 2013. Not to mention the issue of the Sahara and the Maghreb building project, etc.
