Israel and Morocco Express Concern Over Algeria’s Regional Role and Iran Ties

Israeli Foreign Minister Yaïr Lapid and his Moroccan counterpart expressed their "concerns about the role played by Algeria in the region, its rapprochement with Iran and the campaign it has waged against Israel’s admission as an observer member of the African Union".
On the sidelines of his visit to Morocco, Yaïr Lapid and his counterpart Nasser Bourita discussed Algeria’s relationship with its neighbors in the region. The two ministers reviewed the role it plays diplomatically, while expressing the desire to appease relations.
Algiers condemned on Sunday the decision of the African Union (AU) to grant Israel observer status in the pan-African organization and deplored a media agitation around what is more of a "non-event".
Regarding Israeli-Palestinian relations, Mr. Lapid reiterated that he is in favor of the creation of two states to resolve the conflict, but "does not currently see the possibility of making progress on this path with the current Palestinian leaders and the structure of the Israeli executive".
For his part, Nasser Bourita expressed his willingness to see "negotiations resume" to "reach a solution based on two states".
