Aïcha Bassal First Female President Nantes Métropole Habitat
At 51 years old, Aïcha Bassal becomes the first female president of Nantes Métropole Habitat. Born in Morocco, she takes the helm of the leading social housing provider in the West, with the mission to manage a portfolio of 26,000 social housing units.
The board of directors unanimously voted for the election of this Nantes elected official in charge of human resources. Having arrived from Morocco at the age of two, she herself grew up in the Malakoff district, where the organization’s headquarters is located, according to Ouest-France. Aware of her new role, she explains: "I measure the responsibility that has been entrusted to me. I lived 36 years in social housing".

The new leader inherits a complex situation linked to the reduction in state aid, estimated at 50 million euros since 2018. Despite these budget cuts, the organization maintains its renovation efforts with an envelope increased from 33 to 67 million euros over ten years. Most of the property shows good energy performance and results from a plan targeting humidity are expected by year-end.
