92-Year-Old Woman Evicted from Montpellier Social Housing Over Drug Trafficking Allegations

Aïcha, a 92-year-old woman has been evicted from her social housing in Montpellier (Hérault). And for good reason, the apartment would have been used for drug trafficking. The person concerned categorically denies it.

The nonagenarian, who has lived in this apartment for 23 years, was evicted on Thursday on suspicion of using the premises for drug trafficking. "To use one’s apartment as a storage place for drugs, a reception point for dealers and lookouts, amounts to participating and contributing to the perpetuation of drug trafficking," the Hérault prefecture explained on Thursday in a post on X.

The facts date back to last May, when the Montpellier court ordered Aïcha’s eviction, at the request of the social landlord ACM, citing drug trafficking and nuisances reported by the neighborhood, reports France 3 Occitanie. "Today (Thursday), due to a characterized drug trafficking causing intolerable nuisances for the neighborhood, an ACM Habitat tenant was evicted from her home. The law enforcement authorities applied the decision of the Montpellier judicial court," the landlord rejoiced on X.

Hafida, the nonagenarian’s daughter, opposed this eviction, spraying the building’s entrance hall with gasoline and threatening to immolate herself, reports Midi Libre. "I won’t let them do it," she already declared on Wednesday, during a demonstration in front of the ACM Habitat premises. As for her mother, Aïcha, she denies the facts. "I have always worked and paid my rent and bills. I have never harmed anyone," she confided to the same media the day before her eviction.

After her eviction, Aïcha persists and signs: "They made me leave my house for nothing. I am against drugs," she told BFMTV. According to this source, Aïcha’s son would be involved in drug trafficking. An accusation rejected by Hafida
